Still recall with horror Tiananmen Sq massacre. Will never accept that any govt should bring suffering to its people. But if UK had fought Covid with same determination as China, & NZ & Taiwan, tens of thousands of lives would have been saved

Wearing a mask is opposite of living in fear - it's a proper understanding of danger not the wishful thinking of many that Covid has gone away
Cautious, sensible and disciplined behaviour must be used to protect oneself, one's loved ones & strangers, and contain the virus.

Sadly, MPs from all parties have failed their constituents and the country as a whole. By not challenging Johnson’s appalling mismanagement of Covid they have allowed 181,424 people to die from the virus – most of the deaths being avoidable. I hope they will reflect on the immeasurable grief and anguish this horrific number will have brought to their own constituents.
The strategy of mitigation rather than suppression, and therefore not making saving lives the utmost priority, has been, and continues to be, shamefully immoral and lacking in compassion. I’m afraid those MPs who profess to have a Christian faith have certainly not been acting in accordance with the message of the Gospels.
Covid infections are still out of control but it is encouraging to see mortalities are gradually coming down. However, it is complete stupidity to use this as a reason to relax all restrictions now. If you have the enemy on the run you don’t give up, you chase them down even harder to ensure they are defeated.
And this is what the government and all of us must do. There must be strong messages about everyone being especially vigilant and careful, and also exercising maximum self-discipline in taking essential precautions.
I am as convinced as ever that the only way to defeat the virus, save lives and return society to prepandemic norms is not to surrender to it but to get it down to minimal levels – Nano Covid as I call it. With the right leadership, with determination and with a spirit of national unity it will not be that difficult to achieve. See update at:

If these measures do not succeed in bringing about the immediate withdrawal of Putin’s forces from Ukraine I can see no alternative to the United Nations declaring his action a flagrant breach of international law followed by an ultimatum to withdraw completely within a week

Unbelievable that the world is allowing one man, single-handed, to hold us hostage while he commits barbaric crimes against humanity & fragrantly breaches international law.

ALL imports & exports, including oil & gas, to & from Russia should have been stopped by now – as should ALL commercial, sporting & cultural contacts.

Agree. Denial & avoidance, both natural human instincts in the face of danger or uncertainty which manifest themselves in wanting to return to normality Best way to counter such instincts is to keep saying the danger must be confronted & virus defeated in order to remove threat

Monumental mistakes were not having immediate lockdown, not making it completely watertight and relaxing measures too quickly. Even just looking at graphs shows lockdown worked.
Haven't noticed economy devastated as economists predicted.

Covid numbers giving Javid “no particular cause for concern” and Whitty says we have to “just roll with it”.
With Covid deaths now at an annual rate of 55,000 adding to 187,000 already dead, these comments prove beyond doubt that we cannot allow these men to continue in post.

Oh piss off you wet blanket. No one is interested in your nano Covid plan or ideas. The average age of death of these people will be well north of 75 and they’d have died of anything. I’m not having myself or my son miss out on stuff so 90 year olds can live 3 months longer.

If death rate is going up it must be brought down.

Seems totally bizarre that Van Tam has now received his knighthood. I'm sure he's a nice chap but along with Whitty, Valance & Harries and of course Johnson, Javid & Hancock, he's allowed approx 200,000 UK citizens to die from Covid.
